Hey everyone, I recently came across this type of role from a company called StepStone Group via LinkedIn. I have heard of this company before, but I didn't really know what they did. I have seen this type of role for public markets with a trade operation or trade support position title, but never before for the private markets. I guess my question is what would this role entail in terms of exit opps and reputation.
The SPAR Analyst is a member of the Analyst Program and is expected to perform the Fundamental Core Responsibilities described below. The Analyst will work closely with the Functional Team Captains in performing their Fundamental Core Responsibilities. Analysts will participate in Expanded Scope Opportunities on a progressive basis as they maintain accurate, reliable, and consistent results across their Fundamental Core responsibilities.
Fundamental Core Responsibilities
Contributes to the overall success of SPAR private markets data universe (Cashflows; NAV Reconciliations; Portfolio Company Metrics), an important competitive differentiator for StepStone
Processes data from private markets general partners, including entry, review, and reconciliation of capital account statements, cashflows, financial statements and report operating metrics
While performing Fundamental Core data processing responsibilities, is accountable for maintaining quality standards and prioritizing tasks to ensure deadlines are met. Any concerns that a deadline may not be met are escalated in advance to Functional Team Captains and client teams
While processing private markets data, identifies areas of concern due to insufficient or inaccurate information and escalate to appropriate Functional Team Captains and client teams
Follows SPAR Department and Functional Team Captain protocols to contact GPs as necessary to clarify any data that is unclear and request supplemental information - professional standards must be maintained at all times
Develops cumulative Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to successfully complete all Fundamental Core responsibilities and qualify for Expanded Scope Opportunities
Expanded Scope Opportunities May Include
Volunteers to assist on client-related requests made available after coordinated communication between SPAR Functional Team Captains and client teams
Assists with research and analysis for underlying fund amendments or extensions
Seeks out and qualifies for opportunities to progress into permanent roles beyond the Analyst Program. This involves interaction with SPAR client and sector teams over time to learn about scope of client service, sector/thematic-specific coverage, and general client relationship management
Performs other duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate
Education And/or Work Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or business preferred
Significant experience with Microsoft Excel
Working knowledge of financial accounting
